Here at Accomable, we know you love browsing our listings to find the accessible holiday destination that’s right for you. We also know that when it comes to choosing the perfect accessible property, the devil really is in the detail - so we’re bringing you more of it.
We decided to talk to some of the people who’ve already used Accomable to turn their accessible travel dreams into reality. In this blog we chat to Sarah who recently turned a business trip into a holiday opportunity.
Hi Sarah, can you introduce yourself to the readers?
I'm Sarah and I live in Birmingham, UK. I work hard and love travelling. I'm not particularly into 'beach holidays' but I adore city breaks, architecture, learning about different cultures and eating everything! I am a permanent powered wheelchair user and, if I'm travelling with my PAs, need to hire a hoist wherever I'm staying.
Which property did you stay at, and when?
I stayed in the Holiday Inn Express Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof in Frankfurt city centre in September 2016 for one night.

Why did you decide to book a stay there?
I had just spent 3 nights in Trier, Germany for a work conference. As airlines to Luxembourg couldn't accommodate the height my powered chair (sigh!) I had to fly to Frankfurt and make the 3 hour train journey to Trier. I thought it would be fun to spend 24 hours in Frankfurt after the conference and take the opportunity for a little break.
How was the property adapted to meet your needs, and was it suitable?
I often stay in IHG hotels. The benefit of chains is that you usually know what you're getting and I'm sure readers agree that us disabled folk can't afford unpleasant surprises! The room had a wet room and the usual standard accessible features. The hotel also accepted delivery of my mobile hoist which I arranged locally. The staff also kindly stored it for collection after my departure. A local organisation loaned me the hoist free of charge but I just paid €100 approx for the delivery/collection. I was free to source cheaper delivery methods but I asked them to sort it for peace of mind.
What did you get up to during your stay?
After a good breakfast, we took a lovely stroll down the river by the hotel. Each building down the avenue is a different fascinating museum. Then we went into the Cathedral, followed by MMK for some contemporary art. After lunch sat in the old square we took a 55-storey trip up to the top of Main Tower, the highest vantage point in Frankfurt. Our flight was in the evening, so we spent our final few hours enjoying some steak and wine outside in the square by the Opera House.

What advice would you give to someone planning a stay in Frankfurt?
I only spent a day there but I'm glad I did. You might want to go for the Christmas Market in December. I've got several friends who go to Frankfurt specifically for the shopping! I enjoyed my day and itinerary. If I had more time, I would have taken advantage of the breadth of fascinating museums.

Where have you got your eye on for your next stay?
I'm in Rotterdam on holiday as I type this! It's a great city and SO wheelchair accessible. This year, I'll probably plan another trip somewhere in Scandinavia. I will definitely keep checking back on Accomable for new destinations and hotels. It’s really reassuring having the team behind you - people with direct relationships with the hotels. This allows you to really relax and get on with enjoying your trip.
Sounds like you had an amazing trip, despite it being a short one. And hopefully we can help you with your upcoming travel plans too, thanks for the lovely compliment!
